State Representative Dallas Kephart has responded to the Pennsylvania Department of Corrections’ (DOC) answers to questions raised during public hearings on the potential closures of Quehanna Boot Camp and SCI Rockview. The DOC disclosed information regarding its steering committee members, maintenance plans for the facilities, violence reports, recidivism rates, and other inquiries from the hearings held in Clearfield and Centre counties.
Rep. Kephart emphasized the importance of public support shown at these hearings. “Because of the strong show of support from the public at both the Quehanna Boot Camp and SCI Rockview DOC public hearings, and the policy hearing hosted by myself and Rep. Kerry Benninghoff, the DOC released this information,” said Kephart.
The DOC recognized Quehanna’s achievement in having “the most GEDs earned of any correctional institution in the state” for several years. Furthermore, it acknowledged Kephart’s remark that SCI-Rockview should not be involved in any preferential agreements.
Kephart remains committed to advocating for Quehanna Boot Camp to remain operational. “I intend to continue pressuring the DOC and the governor’s administration,” he stated.
