Sen. Wayne Langerholc, Jr. (R-35) has announced the approval of a $3 million state assistance grant for upgrades to the R. J. Corman Railroad Company-Pennsylvania Lines in Clearfield and Cambria counties. The grant is part of a larger $4.2 million project that aims to rehabilitate approximately 20 miles of track on the Cherry Tree Subdivision and Cresson Subdivision.

Langerholc, who chairs the Senate Transportation Committee, emphasized the importance of rail transportation for central Pennsylvania’s key industries. He stated, “Railroads support key industries in central Pennsylvania that depend on safe and reliable rail transportation to grow their operations and create jobs.”

The rehabilitation project, funded through the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation’s rail freight program, will involve spot tie replacement and surfacing. Its primary goal is to ensure the continuation of rail service to businesses and industries along the network, thereby avoiding the need to shift freight onto state and local roadways.

This grant demonstrates the state’s commitment to supporting infrastructure projects that enhance economic growth and job creation. By investing in the rehabilitation of rail lines, Pennsylvania is providing a reliable and efficient transportation option for businesses in the region.

Gwenn Dando, spokesperson for Sen. Langerholc, can be contacted for further information regarding the grant.
