Senator Wayne Langerholc, Jr., who leads the Senate Transportation Committee, has announced the awarding of two rail freight grants within his district. “The railroad industry reflects our rich heritage, inspiring economic development and supporting family-sustaining jobs,” stated Langerholc. He expressed gratitude for the state’s investment of nearly $6 million to enhance rail freight operations in local communities.

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) highlights that Pennsylvania is a leader in the railroad sector, with 65 operating railroads and over 5,600 miles of track. PennDOT oversees programs such as the Rail Freight Assistance Program and Rail Technical Assistance Program to support rail freight services statewide.

Additionally, PennDOT is seeking public input on the 2025 State Rail Plan’s development. Comments can be submitted online by December 19th, covering both freight and passenger rail aspects. Further details and the survey are available at https://advancingparail.com/.
