State Rep. Michael Armanini said on Apr. 21 that Pennelec is addressing ongoing power outages in Sandy Township by planning a reconductoring project to improve service reliability for homes near Kiwanis Trail.

The issue has affected residents over the past two years, prompting Armanini to bring their concerns to Pennelec. The company identified overgrown tree limbs and general line failure as the main causes of the outages. “Although Penelec trims vegetation every five years, there may be trees outside the right-of-way that need to be trimmed by property owners themselves. Penelec’s next regularly scheduled trimming is in 2027,” Armanini said. “I’m grateful constituents brought this issue to my attention, and I hope we can all work quickly to resolve the issue.”

The planned reconductoring job would replace the main backbone of the circuit serving Kiwanis Trail area residents. While this project is currently scheduled for 2030, it could begin sooner if outages continue at a higher rate, according to Armanini.

Pennelec, which operates as a subsidiary of First Energy, will keep monitoring the area for additional projects that could help improve reliability. Residents experiencing problems are encouraged to call Pennelec’s Contact Center or reach out to Armanini’s DuBois office for state-related assistance.

Armanini represents Pennsylvania’s 75th Legislative District covering parts of Elk and Clearfield counties and brings more than three decades of experience in powder metallurgy as well as board service with organizations such as Penn Highlands Healthcare and Community Nurses according to his official website. He also participates on House committees including energy and tourism according to his official website.

Armanini completed studies at Elk County Christian High School and Clarion University according to his official website, grew up in Kersey in Elk County according to his official website, lives with his wife Valerie in DuBois Treasure Lake community according to his official website, engages in community service through board memberships including Goodwill Industries and DuBois YMCA according to his official website, and co-founded Product Assurance Services, a laboratory testing provider according to his official website.
