State Sen. Wayne Langerholc, Jr. and state Rep. Jim Rigby have announced that the Pennsylvania Infrastructure Investment Authority (PENNVEST) has awarded over $8.5 million to Scalp Level Borough. This funding will finance a crucial wastewater project in the region.

Langerholc emphasized the importance of upgrading the water and sewer infrastructure to maintain public health and promote economic growth, stating, “Undertaking vital safety upgrades to water and sewer infrastructure is key to safeguarding public health, promoting economic growth, and ensuring long-term sustainability.” As a PENNVEST board member, he expressed satisfaction with the funding that will aid in modernizing infrastructure and addressing environmental and compliance challenges.

The funding package includes a low-interest loan exceeding $3.3 million and a grant surpassing $5.1 million. About 8,200 feet of new gravity sewer line will be installed to collect wastewater from the borough’s residences. Additionally, the current sewer line will become a stormwater line, and 1,876 feet of new stormwater line will be built to handle redirected flows.

Rigby noted the collaboration with Langerholc in securing this financial support, stating, “Sen. Langerholc and I are proud to have worked together to secure this much-needed funding for the borough and its residents.” He highlighted the existing infrastructure’s deterioration and incapacity during heavy rainfalls.

PENNVEST, which offers low-cost financial resources to combat water-related issues impacting health, safety, and environmental compliance, aims to provide clean water access for all Pennsylvanians while supporting economic development.
