In attendance representing the Pennsylvania Department of Corrections were Daniel Mowery, veteran’s services unit manager and veteran’s coordinator, and Jessica Fiochetta, drug and alcohol treatment specialist, both working at SCI Houtzdale, a medium-security correctional facility.

Fiochetta and Mowery discussed openings and career paths in both corrections and social work and job stability in each field.

Traveling from Montgomery County, Maryland, Officer Joe Arnold also spent time with one of Professor David Bish’s criminal justice classes, “what I said to the class was, how many people have heard of Montgomery County?

Only one person raised their hand and I look at that as a good thing. If we were doing something wrong, you would have heard about us on the news. … we do a lot of training and I think that’s why. We do things the right way.”

Rebecca Pennington, director of student affairs, said, “having this opportunity in an informal setting has given students a chance to connect and interact with employers and the informal aspect has made them less stressed and they’ve truly enjoyed it.”

Students and employers alike enjoyed the informal networking event and left with new connections and awareness of opportunities.
