LHU communication major awarded LHU's Dr. Saundra K. Hybels Memorial Scholarship

Lock Haven University issued the following announcement on May 17.

Lizabeth Kasmer, of Glenside, is a recipient of Lock Haven University's Dr. Saundra K. Hybels Memorial Scholarship for the 2021-22 school year.

Each year, the Hybels Scholarship is awarded to one rising sophomore, one rising junior and one rising senior who excels in the field of journalism.

Kasmer just completed her sophomore year, majoring in communication with a focus on electronic media. She is a member of the HavenScope television club and WLHU radio club. She also boasts a GPA greater than 3.8.

Kasmer was drawn to The Haven because of its peaceful location and small class sizes, which have helped her build an abundance of positive, personal relationships with professors and classmates. Those connections are her favorite aspect of being an LHU student.

Being the recipient of the Hybels Scholarship has also greatly lessened the burden of her college expenses, while helping her stay on track by enabling her to prioritize assignments over the need to work to offset the cost of obtaining her degree.

"It's always beneficial to receive extra help because it allows you to focus on your education and lessens financial obstacles," Kasmer said. "There are a wealth of great scholarship opportunities at LHU because of many generous donors and organizations."

"I would want the donors of my scholarship to know that I wholeheartedly appreciate the help they have given me," she added. "Their assistance has greatly impacted my life, especially given these tough times. I hope to one day be able to pay it forward."

Kasmer said she wants other students and prospective students to know that Lock Haven University provides many great resources to help students succeed.

"From my experience, the faculty and staff are very dedicated to providing the best education possible," she added.

In the future, Kasmer aims to obtain a master's degree in communication, with the ultimate professional goal of becoming a television or radio news anchor.
