State Representatives Mike Armanini and Dallas Kephart are collaborating with local law enforcement in Clearfield, Elk, and Cambria to assist residents in obtaining free license plate replacements. This initiative targets license plates that have become difficult to discern.
Kephart outlined the criteria for an illegible license plate as, “A registration plate is deemed illegible when one or more numbers or letters cannot be recognized from 50 feet or if the registration plate shows any blistering, peeling, discoloration or loss of reflectivity.” The representatives have organized two events for this service.
The assistance entails providing forms MV-44 and MV-46, which constituents can fill out. Staff from Armanini's office will ensure these forms are submitted to PennDOT. The events are scheduled from 4-6 p.m. on two different dates and locations: Wednesday, August 7 at St. Marys Area Middle School and Wednesday, August 14 at Curwensville Community Center.
Armanini expressed gratitude to the local police departments, stating, “We really appreciate both the St Marys and Curwensville Police departments for helping us get this accomplished.” He further explained the benefits by saying, “It will be a quick turnaround for anyone operating a vehicle with an illegible license plate and dealing directly with local law enforcement allows us to avoid the usual plate replacement fee associated with replacement.”
