STATE AREA COLLEGE DELTA PROGRAM: Penny Games Raise Money for Cancer

Statearea

State Area College Delta Program issued the following announcement.

Park Forest Middle School Technology Student Association members made a community service project a rewarding experience — for the Centre County American Cancer Society.

Harper House, Sarah Luan, Isabelle McSweeney, Sienna Sullivan and Margo Wyckoff raised $2,926.21 for ACS from a penny games campaign held this spring before schools closed because of the COVID-19 pandemic. The students distributed bins donated by UTZ Quality Foods and rules to each homeroom classroom, which then collected pennies during homeroom and dismissal times.

“These young individuals unselfishly brainstormed and developed an exceptional plan of action to ensure that their penny games fundraiser would be successful,” said technology education teacher Tim Dzurko, the TSA chapter’s co-advisor with technology education teacher Shaun Boyer.

Top homerooms at each grade level received a “Sweet Party” for their winning efforts, but the entire PFMS student body can take pride in helping — one penny at a time — win the fight against cancer.
