Dubois Area Catholic School issued the following announcement.
DuBois Central Catholic is very blessed with the dedication and caliber of instruction exhibited by our faculty. Each Monday a different faculty member will be highlighted. We begin this week with Arlan J. ‘A.J.’ Zelenky.
Arlan Zelenky graduated from DuBois Central Catholic in 2015. He continued his education at St. Francis University, earning a B.S. in Mathematics and self-designed minor in Mathematical Economics. He is triple certified to teach grades seven – 12 in mathematics, chemistry and physics.
Arlan is currently a lead peer tutor at St. Francis University and member of Kappa Delta Phi Education and Kappa Mu Epsilon Mathematics Honors Societies. His presentation, “Sudoko Solutions in Mupad Using Grobner Basis” was named one of the best presentations at the Great Lakes Regional meeting of the Kappa Mu Epsilon Mathematics Honors Society. Arlan published his work in the Fall 2019 Edition of the Ball State University Undergraduate Mathematics Exchange Journal.
Arlan currently teaches Algebra II, Algebra II Honors, Intro to Geometry, Geometry, Geometry Honors, and SAT Math. He is co-teaching AP Calculus and is the National Honor Society Advisor for DCC. Arlan also heads up two activity periods, one focusing on Meditation and the other on Coin Collecting.
“Now that I am teaching at my Alma Mater, my goal is to instill the skills needed to succeed at creating and conducting research with mathematical literacy by emphasizing these skills in Geometry. Proofs are a necessity in order to present your arguments and justifications with new research. I know my students from DCC attend college and want to go into STEM-related fields. The ability to read and write mathematics is a core skill that is essential when publishing any kind of paper or research in any STEM-related field.”
