The Pennsylvania Broadband Development Authority has distributed several grants to enhance digital connectivity in the 35th Senatorial District. This announcement was made by Sen. Wayne Langerholc, Jr. (R-35). These grants are part of the ARPA Digital Connectivity Technology Program (DCTP), a federal initiative aimed at aiding public institutions in acquiring digital devices necessary for high-speed internet access within local communities.
Senator Langerholc emphasized the ongoing challenge of broadband accessibility, stating, “Even as broadband internet coverage increases, the cost of laptops continues to be a barrier to broadband access for many people.” He added that providing laptops through these grants would help bring "broadband connectivity into reach for more of our neighbors."
The DCTP program is supported by $20 million in federal funding and targets community anchor institutions such as libraries, schools, municipalities, workforce training organizations, and other non-profits. The eligible projects under this program focus on supplying devices that not only enable broadband internet access but also promote digital literacy and skills training.
