Senator Wayne Langerholc, Jr. joined representatives Mike Armanini, Kerry Benninghoff, Dallas Kephart, and other members of the House Republican Policy Committee for a public hearing in State College. The focus was on the potential impacts on the community from the proposed closure of Quehanna Boot Camp and SCI Rockview.

Discussions at the hearing stressed the negative effects that closing these facilities would have locally, particularly concerning economic support and public safety. Elected officials, corrections staff, and business leaders provided testimony on the importance of these institutions.

"Quehanna Boot Camp and SCI Rockview are well established, well-functioning efficient facilities. They need to stay in operation," stated Langerholc. "I stand with all the men and women who put on the uniform daily and will continue to work to find alternatives to closure."

The announcement in February by the Shapiro Administration detailed intentions to move forward with closing the Quehanna Boot Camp in Clearfield County and SCI Rockview in Centre County.

Langerholc had previously testified at the Quehanna Boot Camp listening session on April 10. Another session is scheduled for the proposed closure of SCI Rockview on April 15 at Bald Eagle High School in Wingate.

Feedback on the proposal can be sent to the Department of Corrections via email at ra-crdocclose@pa.gov or by leaving a voicemail at 888-316-8950.
